Quotable

"[President-Elect Obama] says we only have one president at a time. I'm afraid that overstates the number of presidents we have."

24 - Not very good

Did anyone watch the 22-hours-short version of 24 last night? Seemed like a sponsor-filled version of a two hour teaser for next season. None of the usual suspense, all of the now-tired plot devices (okay, Jack is super fighter, then he gets captured, then he get tortured, then he gets away...haven't we seen that enough times?), a relatively uninteresting set of new characters. Very disappointing.

Prices falling fast!

utterli-image
Gas prices are falling so fast that the stations can't keep up. Road and pump signs showed $2.05/gal, pump was $1.99.

Not well thought out

Just heard radio ad for new web site offered by power company.

It said...and I'm quoting..."just click on the map to see if your power is out."

Does anyone else see the irony?

"Free" wifi

You'd figure that in Palo Alto, you could get free wifi anywhere. True, and not true. Sure, I power up and find 10 different networks...but they are all slow, slow, slow.

When will we get nationwide wifi?

Just lamenting the end of the season for the red sox.

Well, there's always the Patriots. Oops, scratch that.

There's always the Celtics!

Are the candidates in the same debate?

Obama and McCain are talking past eac other...it's as if they are having two different conversations at the same time.

Ugh. So frustrating!

Mobile post sent by MichaelBayer using Utterlireply-count Replies.

Would the candidates just answer?

Why can't they just answer the actual question? Both McCain and Obama spend way too much time swiping at each other and making the same (small) points over and over again.

Like, if I hear McCain mention the $3 million projector again...

Debate: No-op

So, nothing new. Lots of pointed swipes at each other, each of which was answered with more swipes and denials. Both of them have selective facts and evidence to support their points, and neither one can imagine that the other one has a valid point. McCain looks at everything through his red lens, Obama his blue one, and neither sees the whole picture.

Don't feel like either one can be trusted - but they're politicians, so it's hard to get to that point.

Sigh...

Support the American Red Cross

Sorry for the Utterli long mailing list, but this is Utterli worth it.

Claire Johnson shared an inspirational Utter from Leslie from the Red Cross yesterday. You might already know that the American Red Cross harnesses Utterli to create and syndicate communications. All of us here at Utterli are huge supporters of the American Red Cross, and we try to help them out in their mission to help any way we can.

To hear the post, please go to the new group RedCrossDay -- http://www.utterli.com/…edCrossDay -- and listen to the post from Claire. Please also join the group and choose an act of solidarity (i.e. replace your avatar with Red Cross logo, update your status) so that Claire has a way to know how many people have joined. And, if you can, please give.

This is all about getting the word out, so please tell your friends, and have them tell their friends as well.

Neil Peart's comments on Prague

The section on Prague had me thinking of you last night as I was finishing Neil Peart's "Roadshow." Neil Peart, drummer from Rush, wrote of his travels (primarily by motorcycle) on his 2004 tour. He seemed deeply impressed with Prague as a city and described it more extensively than most of the cities he's visited as a true example of European character that's survived the wars, the Communists, and so forth.

Sure hope you're not leaving all that behind!
